Goal

I CAN jump onto a floating mat from the pool edge, move across mats of various sizes and buoyancies, and cover a specified distance to the opposite edge without falling into the water.

Success criteria

Cross by entering the water and exiting safely while remaining calm.

Environment/Space/Equipment

Place large floating mats across the width of the pool, along the edge. Space them one meter apart.

Group management

The activity is done in a group, but participants perform the task individually.

Time/Duration/Schedule

5-15 minutes. Depending on the number of participants and their level of engagement.

Pre-requisite

Risk assessment during the jump onto the mat from the pool edge and when jumping from mat to mat. Swimming skills are not essential when distances between the mats are short.

Description

Instructions: “Cross the river by jumping into the water, climbing onto the mat, and continuing until you reach the other side. Be careful, when jumping, I don't hold on and jump into the water, not onto the next mat.”
